Welcome to the Parish of St Francis of Assisi and Immaculate Conception

The present-day parish covers the Bradford suburbs of Eccleshill and Idle. St Francis’ Church at Eccleshill opened as chapel-of-ease in 1928 and was designed by Edward Simpson. Ten years later it became a separate parish. The church was extended and re-ordered to the designs of Peter Langtry-Langton in 1974. Mass was first said at Idle in 1932 when the Co-operative Hall was used as a chapel-of-ease. The parish was established in 1955 and the Church of the Immaculate Conception, designed by R A Ronchetti, opened in 1960. The interior was re-ordered in the late 1970s. The parishes were amalgamated as part of the reorganisation of pastoral provision in the Bradford area in 2006.

Masses suspended and all Catholic churches closed across Britain

In compliance with government instructions as from 23rd March 2020, Bishop Marcus has, with sadness, asked that our church buildings be closed with immediate effect until further notice. Fr Anthony will continue to say Mass in private, praying particularly for the needs of the Parish and all affected by the situation we find ourselves in.
